At the 2021 AVOHK AGM held last night (17 June 2021) at Cafe 8. We were joined live from Germany by Margit Jungmann, The President of World Masters Athletics. Margit also prepared a prerecorded video. Margit presented Bill Purves an award on behalf of AVOHK and the Hong Kong Masters Athletic community for his outstanding contribution over many years. Especially ensuring Hong Kong were represented at the World and Asian Masters athletic championships and other international masters meets. And for his contribution as a member of the WMA competition committee. Bill received a lovely tankard and a can of the finest German Paulaner beer. Bill, well deserved and thank you Margit.
Thank you to all those members that joined the AVOHK AGM and buffet dinner at Cafe 8 on Wed 24th June 2020. Congratulations to Ken Greer for being awarded AVOHK Male Athlete of the Year. Ken competes in the M65 age category and has had an outstanding year of racing as well as serving on the AVOHK Committee. Ken’s highlights are winning the M65 age group in the AVOHK Comprador 5K series, AVOHK Reservoir Series and recording a 1hr 40 min half marathon at the 2020 AVOHK Gammon China Coast Marathon and Half Marathon. Ken well done. Very well deserved.
Congratulations also to two very worthy winners of the AVOHK Female Athlete of the Year. Janine Canham and Virginie Goethals. This year Janine competed in the World Marathon Challenge, 7 Marathons in 7 Days in 7 different continents. An amazing experience for Janine and in doing so raised an incredible sum of money for a local charity RUN which supports refugees in our Hong Kong community. Janine also won a number of Gold medals at the 2019 Taiwan Masters track championships and set a new Hong Kong W55 age group record for 10k at the same championship. Sharing the award is Virginie Goethals (Managing Director of RUN) for her amazing effort in completing the 4 Trails challenge (298 km) in 68 hours, yes two hundred and ninety eight kilometers over Chinese New Year. Finishing at the Green Post Box in Mui Wo. Again raising substantial amount of funds for her RUN refugee foundation. Both Janine and Virginie epitomize what is so good about our sport. Amazing individual efforts by Janine and Virginie and for a very deserving cause.
